Project: Rehab Robot 1
This project will involve developing a robotic device or instrumented mechanism for retraining arm and hand movement after a stroke or spinal cord injury. Students will work to develop a new device or improve a device that was developed previously in the UCI Biorobotics Laboratory. Skills and knowledge to be developed are mechanical design of linkages, data acquisition from mechanical sensors, electrical circuit design, software design, including computer gaming, human subjects experimentation, data analysis in Matlab, an familiarity with biomechanics and neural control of movement. This project requires a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and excellent self-motivation and self-organization skills; students are expected to work well with only periodic direct supervision.
